What kind of lodging is available for SAREX?
All in-park lodging is described on our concessionaire's website at www.yosemitepark.com. The closest lodging to Badger Pass, where SAREX is being staged, is probably Yosemite Valley or in the Wawona/ Fish Camp area. Please keep in mind that water in the South Fork of the Merced River is very low this year. Because of this, some summer accommodations in Wawona may be shut down earlier than usual, depending on conditions at the time. There are also numerous possibilities for accommodations in the gateway communities surrounding the park. However, Yosemite is huge (about 5 hours from end to end!) so we'd advise that you look at a map when booking those if you aren't familiar with the area. Please call ahead and check on availability if you are planning on bringing a service dog; lodging in the park does not allow companion animals.
Where is camping available for RVs?
RVs can stay at Badger Pass from Friday, September 7th through Sunday, September 9th. There is no length limit there for RVs or trailers there. Bridalveil Creek Campground will also be open to SAREX participants on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis. The length limit at Bridalveil Creek is 30' for RVs and 27' for trailers. There are no hookups, but there are water and toilet facilities at the campground. There are two dump stations within about an hour: one at Wawona at the south end of the park, and one in Yosemite Valley. Camping fees for Bridalveil Creek are included in the cost of SAREX registration, but there are only 110 sites so it won't accommodate all SAREX participants.
Please also keep in mind that Highway 140 outside Yosemite’s Arch Rock entrance currently has 28’ length restrictions due to the Ferguson Rockslide, which occurred in May, 2006. For other road information and conditions inside the park, please call 209/372-0200. For road information outside the park, please contact Caltrans at 1-800-427-7623.
Where is camping available for tents?
Camping will be available from September 7th through September 9th only at Badger Pass and Bridalveil Creek Campground. There is some space for tents at Badger Pass, but as there is little grassy area available, be prepared to camp on asphalt if you choose to stay there. Bridalveil Creek Campground is also open to tent campers. The cost of camping is included in your SAREX registration. Other camping is available by reservation in Yosemite Valley and on a first come, first-served basis in other areas around the park. Camping locations can be viewed on the website at www.nps.gov/yose.
If I’m attending SAREX, do I have to pay the park entrance fee?
No. Entrance fees are included in your SAREX registration. However, be prepared to show a credential or SAREX registration letter at the gate in order to have the fee waived.
