BE PREPARED, Rescue Preparedness For You And Your Horse

Rescue Preparedness for you and your horse, the skills you don’t ever want to use….

Be ready for the possibility of a large animal rescue. This class will help you and your horse to be ready for an On-road or Off-road situation.  The instructors will cover LAR (large animal rescue) preparation, prevention, response, manipulation of the horse, how to get additional help, and debriefing.

Emergency Vet Care for your Horse

This course will cover basic veterinary care for the Mounted Search and Rescue horse/mule.  Know the Normal Horse, identify and treat common problems such as wounds, Major bleeds just to start with. The essential Wilderness Equine First Aid Kit what and what not to have.

Evacuating your Patient

Should you evacuate a patient via a horse? YES, this class will show you how by giving you the dos and don’ts of evacuating a patient via your search horse.

Packing for SAR

This class will cover the basic packing so that you can be an additional asset to support the SAR Mission. It is designed to give managers and you an added awareness what mounted search technicians can add to a mission besides searching. We will cover basic loads that would be used during a SAR Mission.

Mounted Search And Rescue Pending National Standards

Standards are in progress through ASTM for Mounted SAR.  These standards would be adopted for interstate/intrastate mutual aid minimum expectations for the Mounted SAR resource.  This class provides information regarding the current expectations for those standards, which are close to final draft.

Understanding your Equine Search Partner

Having a good understanding your equine partner is important.  Having a more specific knowledge of the equine, including speed of travel; clue detections capabilities, equine visual, olfactory and auditory abilities make for a more effective partner and more effective use of the MSAR resource.
