Kootenay Highline- Brendan Latham

This is a demonstration of the Kootenay Highline System, which we will operate with a Norwegian Reeve variation. The YOSAR team will be rigging and operating the highline with Brandon Latham of Rigging for Rescue as Team Leader. There will be a Q&A session concerning the basic mechanics of the system after we have run though a demonstration of tensioning the track rope, lowering the attendant and raising attendant.  Participants will get a chance to look at the rigging involved on both sides of the canyon 

Big Wall Lowering Operations - This is what YOSAR is best known for, “Big Wall Rescues”. Take a ride with us as we conduct a 250m lowering operation off of the Super Nova Wall.  The resident technical riggers of YOSAR will be operating the rig with Brandon Latham of Rigging for Rescue, as Team Leader.  During the operation, participants will get to join in with the YOSAR team to experience a Big Wall Haul.  Some of the techniques that will be demonstrated include, managing tandem prusik belay with an excessive amount of rope in service (more than 60m) and use of the 540 rescue belay device with a friction device to manage the weight of rope in service.
